Labels allow administrators to attach metadata to Virtual Machines (VMs) in their itopia inventory in Google Cloud to make it easier to sort and search for VMs.

Labels are made comprised of key/value pairs which can be assigned at the level of the deployment, the collection and a VM instance.

What type of labels can be applied?

Labels are made of a key and value pair.  The characteristics for each are the same:

  • maximum of 63 characters

  • only lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens (-) and underscores (_)

  • International characters are allowed (i.e. carte, tilde, etc)

  • must start with a lowercase letter

Managing Labels

Labels (key-value pairs) can be added to three layers.   Adding/editing/removing labels is managed in three locations.

  • Deployment Details

  • Collection

  • VM instance

Labels (key/value pairs) can be added when creating a new deployment, collection or VM instance.

  3. Select Edit icon to the right of the Deployment Name in top right hand corner of the Dashboard.

  4. On the Edit Deployment page, scroll to the very bottom of the page to the Labels section

  2. Select Cloud Manager

  3. Select VM instances

  4. Check the box to the left of the specific VM Instance name and then Edit option in the top row.
