Network licenses

Network licenses are licenses served to users and devices via a licensing server and hosted by the district.

A licensing server will be set up and managed by the district IT department. Applications allowing or requiring a license server—such as Autodesk or Solidworks—will need the district to configure access to the license server via a NAT. All requirements for these configurations can be found here.

Named user licenses

Named user licenses are provided by software vendors in order to allow access to their applications.

In this model, the district will assign licenses from a central management console to users, usually with their email address, and these users will be granted access to log into and use the application.

📝 Note

Some applications allow the use of both a named user license and a network license, such as Autodesk, others only allow strictly named user licenses such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
