Installing Resilio Sync

Click here and download the program.

Resilio gives you the option for the free download and you also have the option to pay for a license for their pro features. For the purpose of this guide we will be using the free version.

Run the downloaded installer.

Make sure you select “Install Resilio Sync as a Windows Service” in the initial screen so that the program can run in the background and wouldn’t need an account to always be logged in to sync. Click “Next”

It will now ask for an account to install the service under. This can be either a local admin account you created or a domain admin account. It has to be an admin account because only admin accounts have the ability to run services. This account also has to have full control the folders and files you will be syncing. Enter credentials and hit “OK”.

The web gui will then launch on the browser that is set as your default. The initial screen will be to create an account to access the web gui. Fill out the prompts and hit Continue. Note: BOTH USERNAME AND PASSWORD ARE CASE SENSITIVE.

Now enter a name for this machine, check off the two check boxes to agree to their terms, and hit “Get Started”.

A prompt will come up asking for the credentials you made in step five. Enter them and hit Log In. 

Once in the gui, click the gear on the top right and choose “Preferences”

Click on the “Advanced” Tab and either take note of the Connection Listening port or put any port of your choosing. This is the port that will handle the traffic for the sync from this end. We recommend making a firewall exception to allow traffic for this port (both udp and tcp) to avoid sync issues.

Repeat steps 1-9 on both sides (Google Cloud and site with the files).

Setting up a folder sync

Open the Web Gui shortcut on the side with the files needed to sync. 

Note: If this was installed under another profile, the icon might not be present for you, but you can still get to it by browsing to, as long as the person that installed it didn’t change the web gui listening port from the settings. 

At the prompt enter the credentials made in step 5 in the installation steps above.

Click on “Add folder” on the top left. 

Browse and select the folder you want to sync. Click “Open”  

The share settings will pop up now. For this we will keep the defaults and hit copy since we can remote into both servers from the same computer. If you don’t have this ability, you can email it to yourself and open the email in the other site. Below are some of the settings explained. You can find more information on the product here.

When the other side is configured, this side will get a notification to approve it. 

Link will expire in X days

The share links below can be configured with an expiration limit



Sends link in an email to an email address


Shows you the link so you can copy it to your clipboard. 

Copy the link to your clipboard by pressing CTRL+C or right click>copy.

Open the web gui on the site that should be receiving the files, hit the gear on the top right and choose manual connection. 

Paste the link obtained in step 6 into the field and hit “Next”.

Browse by clicking “Change” and select the location you would like the folder to be stored in, click “Open”. Then click “Connect”

If you left the option enabled for approving new peers in step 5, you’ll notice the status is “Pending Approval”.  

You would now have to go to the site where the share was created and approve the sync by clicking on the green arrow in the notification on the top right.

The sync connection is now complete.
